For writers going into grades 8 and 9.
Write On! Workshops'

Dates and times for 2020 sessions TBD.
Registration will re-open in February 2020.

This workshop is for teens who want to take their writing to the next level. Over the course of five jam-packed days, we experiment with fiction, poetry graphic storytelling, and other literary forms. We explore composing strategies, brainstorming methods, imaginative risk-taking, and round out the week with revision and creation of a literary publication.

Modeled after professional writing workshops, this course gives teens the opportunity to follow their rough drafts through the workshop process, decipher feedback, put it to use, and revise and polish their writing towards the goal of publication.

In addition to submitting their work to a curated selection of teen magazines and creative writing contests, teens edit and design their own hand-crafted literary magazines that feature their favorite work, leaving the course with enough copies to share and a lasting artifact of a creative, empowering week.

Benjamin Solomon is a writer, gardener, and papa of two, an assistant professor of English at Salt Lake Community College, and an author of stories, poems, and essays, almost all of them published in small, obscure literary journals that nobody knows about anymore.

He studied creative writing in college and now he teaches it to college students far more brilliant than himself. He likes books by dead people, living people, and people unborn. Comics, zines, bookmaking, fiction writing, procrastinating, and doodling are some of his favorite literary habits. Avocados are his favorite food, armadillos are his favorite animal, and he’s excited to be leading Write On’s Teen Edition this summer!
